She was hit by a car, and she woke up to speak in foreign languages and accents

An American woman who had never been to New Zealand began speaking the local Kiwi accent after she woke up from a two-week coma, as well as a number of foreign languages and accents.

Notably, 24-year-old Summer Diaz from Los Angeles was hit by a car while crossing the street on November 25 last year while returning home from her job.

She was taken to the hospital where it was found that she had sustained several injuries including a broken pelvis, a broken shoulder and a brain injury.

The Daily Mail reported that she spent two weeks in a coma after the accident.

However, she does not remember what happened to her that day.

After waking up from the coma, she initially felt confused and unable to speak.

I communicated through sign language I learned at university.

When her voice began to return, Samar noticed that her speech was different.

"I went to rehab and my voice started to improve a little bit. I was working with speech therapists but I still spoke very slowly, so it was hard to hear anything. As my voice got stronger, people started hearing the accent more," Samar told Jam Press. .

Samar's new tone left people wondering, especially the hospital staff.

“My nurses would come and say 'Where are you from?'

And I wouldn't believe me when I said 'I'm from here.' I'd like to explain that I was born here but they would say 'But you have a strange accent.'

"I had to make it clear that it wasn't my accent and she was just starting to do it," Samar added.

It was then discovered that she had a rare condition called foreign accent syndrome.

Since then, the summer has passed with a series of instances of speaking in foreign languages and accents, some lasting only a few hours and others for months.

She added, "I've had a very British accent, close to my boyfriend's for a while. I had a French one at one point, and for a while, I was Russian. At the moment, it's settled on an Australian or New Zealand accent."
