A facility where you can observe cranes up close in Izumi City, Kagoshima Prefecture, which is known as the largest wintering ground for cranes in Japan, has begun operations this season.

Izumi City's Izumi Hirano is the largest wintering ground in Japan where more than 10,000 hooded cranes and white-naped cranes come from Siberia every year, and the first arrival was confirmed on the 18th of last month.

The "Tsuru Observation Center" in the city has been open for this season from the 1st of this month, and the opening ceremony was held on the 3rd.

Nobutaka Utsuki, the representative director of the Izumi City Tourism Specialties Association, which manages the facility, said, "The tourism industry was in trouble due to the influence of the corona, but I think that it is finally coming to an end. I want you to come and send out the vines of Izumi all over Japan. "

At the observation center, rice fields where vines rest their wings spread out in front of you, and you can see the ecology up close.

Only a few vines were confirmed on the 3rd, but about 2000 vines were confirmed in nearby reclaimed land.

Izumi City is aiming to register the Izumi Plain with the Ramsar Convention, which stipulates the conservation of important wetlands, this month as well.

A couple in their 60s from Aira City, Kagoshima Prefecture, said, "I saw them eating food. I want them to rest their feathers in Izumi to get nourishment and leave again."

The observation center is scheduled to open until March next year.
