Iraq..the number of falafel poisoning cases reached 568

The Health Department of Maysan Governorate, southern Iraq, announced today that the number of people infected with poisoning after eating “falafel” meals has risen to 568.

And the department stated in a press statement, "All the injured said that they ate in the same restaurant a day before the symptoms appeared, that is, on October 30."

She indicated that she had taken a number of measures, including directing the health control teams, accompanied by the National Security, to the aforementioned restaurant and taking samples of food and drinks for the purpose of laboratory testing.

The Health Department confirmed, "One suspected death case was registered, and the body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Department in Baghdad by a judicial decision, pending the results of the cause of death."

And she added, "All the injured are in a stable condition, most of them have recovered, and only 12 cases remain in the hospital in a stable condition."

And the Maysan Health Department stated, "Samples were taken from lying patients for the purposes of laboratory culture of blood and stool samples, and the final results are awaited within 48 hours."
