It had never rained so much in the Gard for nearly thirty years.

The department, like that of neighboring Lozère, has suffered the vagaries of the sky with several particularly important events.

In particular the episode of October 3, during which 112 people had to be brought to safety.

But the month of October has not only reserved its usual Mediterranean or Cevennes episodes.

The whole month was particularly wet.

The department had a record with 171% of rain, compared to the normal precipitation of October.

The contrast from one department to another

No other department in mainland France has experienced such a surplus.

A situation all the more astonishing as it is in Aude, another department of Languedoc, where the deficit was the strongest: the quantity of rain is equivalent to only 40% of the seasonal average.

It was in Villefort, in Lozère, that the rain fell with the most force: 877.8 mm.

“Three times more than normal,” emphasizes Florence Vaysse, Météo-France's regional referent for Languedoc-Roussillon.

However, the record of 1891 was not broken: it had rained 1,086 mm during the month ”.

Mount Aigoual was also heavily watered: 569.2 mm of rain.

And during this time, everywhere else in metropolitan France, it fell on average 84 mm of rain.

That is to say a deficit of around 12% compared to normal….
