• Idris Elba plays a bandit pursued by a rival who wants revenge on him.

  • Jeymes Samuel's “The Harder They Fall”, airing on Netflix, puts black women and men at the center of a highly successful original western.

Idris Elba is the class personified.

His presence is as always remarkable in

The Harder They Fall

by Jeymes Samuels, available on Netflix this Wednesday.

This western allows him to play a ruthless gang leader that his henchmen escape from prison and who must undergo the hunt for enemies drunk with revenge.

“There have already been black westerns like

However, I believe that it is increasingly possible to show how present black people have been in American history and to make their influence evident in all film genres.

Director Jeymes Samuel, a renowned musician under the name The Bullitts, is also embarking on this abundant first feature film.

A real bandit (or almost)

“I had known Jeymes for a long time, insists Idris Elba. So I knew he wanted to edit this film that was close to his heart and that he had a very clear vision of what he wanted to tell. What did the filmmaker want to reveal? These are black women and men who come to torpedo the codes of a genre not really known to represent the American West in all its diversity. Idris Elba lends his phlegmatic silhouette to Rufus Buck, an outlaw who really existed and who has been transformed into an anthology villain by a scenario taking great liberties with historical reality.

“My father was a fan of westerns,” recalls Idris Elba.

In my family, we obviously knew Clint Eastwood and John Wayne but it was Yul Brynner that we admired the most.

I found him to be incredibly cool.

It is therefore to the star of the

"What impressed me about the great western actors is their static side," says the actor.

On film posters but also on the screen, they impressed by their mere presence.

Today the spectator lets himself be imposed by Idris Elba.

He is as charismatic as he is worrying in the face of cowboys armed to the teeth but also strong women (Regina Hall and Zazie Beetz) who share with him the star of this original western.
