Media Spain opens to the return of Google News seven years later and technology sees the "ideal conditions"
The cooling off period at Google for the return of its news aggregator has been short.
Only one day after the Government gave the green light to the new European regulations for copyright, the company has already made the decision: Google News will be back in Spain eight years after its closure, as confirmed to EL WORLD from the company itself.
Specifically "since the beginning of 2022" when, according to a spokesperson for the technology company, the server "
will offer links to useful and relevant news
, from a wide number of sources, which will help the Spanish public to find more information on current news and to deepen in the themes and, to the media, to have a new window of access to its readers and new audiences, to have more traffic on its pages and to be able to make it profitable ".
From Google, once the Council of Ministers gave the green light to the new legislation yesterday, they already indicated that "the ideal conditions" that opened the agreement facilitated the return of Google News to Spain, after the closure in 2014 with the approval of the Intellectual Property Law.
Just a few hours later, that return came true with the announcement of the technology company.
The key to that return of the news aggregator is in the suppression of article 32.2 of the Intellectual Property Law,
which partially renders the AEDE canon ineffective
, which obliged Google to pay obligatorily for linking and displaying any media content to the association of editors and authors Cedro.
