This Wednesday, November 3, 2021, takes place the very last visit of outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel to France.

It takes place in the city of Beaune, in eastern France, a major wine-growing place.

On this occasion, Angela Merkel will be presented by French President Emmanuel Macron with the insignia of Grand'Croix of the Legion of Honor.

In sixteen years in power, Angela Merkel has known four French heads of state.

His departure opens a period of uncertainty in Franco-German relations, all the more so in the context of the upcoming French presidential election.

What to expect with Angela Merkel's announced successor Olaf Scholz?

How have Franco-German relations evolved?

Are they still the engine of the European Union?
