According to the latest information from the RKI, 20,398 new infections with the coronavirus and 194 other deaths related to the virus were recorded within 24 hours.

The total number of registered cases of infection in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 4,628,419, the total number of deaths to 96,027.

Reopening vaccination centers "expensive and complicated" but rewarding

The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach meanwhile called for the reopening of as many vaccination centers as possible so that booster vaccinations can initially be carried out for people over the age of 70.

This will be "expensive and complicated", says Lauterbach of the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).

However, the reopening is still worthwhile: "We now need a very high speed with the booster vaccinations."
