Motorists driving in the town of Missé, in Thouars (Deux-Sèvres), have recently been required to stop at a particularly surprising stop sign.

It is on rue de Chambrette, on a section of the roadway where no intersection exists, reports

The decision of the municipal team therefore left the inhabitants of the district perplexed.

Even the most respectful of the Highway Code drivers have questioned the merits of putting up a stop sign at this location.

The location chosen may be after a bend and in a descent, nothing justifies this signaling, judged some residents.

The delegated town hall, however, explained that it had a good reason to proceed with this installation.

Limit crossings in the forbidden direction

It relies on the sign, but also on the white line drawn on the ground to encourage cars to stop, to make motorists responsible.

Rue de Chambrette is a one-way street and a significant number of drivers are said to have gotten into the habit of driving in the prohibited direction, officials said.

They felt the new signage could deter violators.

The inhabitants of the surroundings, for their part, regretted that the bad behavior of some leads to a constraint for the greatest number.
