Sultan Al Qasimi inaugurates “Sharjah Book” and launches the first 17 volumes of the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language”

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated this evening, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the activities of the fortieth session of the Sharjah International Book Fair, organized by the Sharjah Book Authority at the Expo Center Sharjah, under the slogan (Here You have a book) with the participation of 1632 Arab and foreign publishers and 85 writers, creators and artists from different countries of the world.

In a cultural and civilizational achievement that constitutes a rich addition to history in the biography of the Arab nation, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi launched the first 17 volumes of the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language”, which is the major linguistic project sponsored by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and dates for the first time The vocabulary of the language of Daad and the transformations of its use over the past 17 centuries.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah said - in an excerpt from his speech during the opening of the exhibition, the Arabic language, dear brothers, has characteristics and advantages that elevate it and exalt it in the world of languages, and it is one of the longest-lived world languages, the widest in the lexicon, and the most wonderful statement. For it, and to devote the bulk of our celebration at the Sharjah International Book Fair to it, and to the great achievement that took place today.

His Highness added: And do not forget, dear audience, that the Arabic lexical work is a vast field in which Arab scholars have done well since the (Al-Ain) dictionary, passing through (Jamarat Al-Lughah), (The Dictionary of Measures), (The Ocean Dictionary), and (Lisan Al Arab). ), and (The Crown of the Bride), and other mothers of Arabic dictionaries, but the Arabic language needed a large Arabic lexicon that traces the evolution of its vocabulary and dates all its roots and words. It is missing, and everyone who passes by this great building says: We have not seen a better structure than this, except for the placement of this brick.


And His Highness continued: Now, dear brothers, the time has come to lay this brick and fill this gap, and here you are witnessing the first parts of the historical lexicon of the Arabic language, which we have been chanting for a long time, after the long, long waiting period of the Arabic language. Sharjah, which is not an individual effort that counts as a single state or linguistic complex over another, but rather the efforts of institutions, academies and linguistic centers that all participated in this great work under the umbrella of the Federation of Arab Scientific Linguistic Academies in Cairo. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah announced the allocation of a website and a smart application for the historical lexicon of the Arabic language, saying: At the same time, we are aware that modern technology and digital communication networks are a vast and wide field for communication and publication. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah concluded his speech by saying: In this regard, I cannot but extend my gratitude and beautiful praise to everyone who participated in the preparation of this national Arab work, especially the scholars of the Federation of Arabic Language Academies. Editors, experts, reviewers, committees of inscriptions, dialects and ancient languages, and the team of Al Qasimi publications who made a double effort to produce these blessed parts. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah honored, during the opening ceremony of the book fair, the Kuwaiti novelist and writer Talib Al-Rifai. In the field of studies, the award went to the writer, Dr. Hessa Abdullah Al Ketbi, for her author (Experimentation in Contemporary Emirati Poetic Discourse), and the award for the best printed Emirati book about the Emirates went to the writer Sakhr Abdullah Ali Saif for his book (The Accounts of Suhail and the Accounts of the Dorors..Voice from the original past).


The award for the best Arabic book in the field of novel went to Tunisian writer Hadi Taymoumi for his novel (The Assassin’s Resurrection), while the award for best foreign fiction book went to the writer Aisha Al-Naqbi for her author (Terlaman, Kingdom of Grits), and the award for the best foreign realistic book went to the writer Joel Hayward, for her author ( Muhammad's Leadership: A Historical Reconstruction).

In terms of publishing house awards, Dar Al Sama for Publishing, Production and Distribution won the (Best Local Publishing House of the Year) award, and the (Best Arab Publishing House) award, which was won by That Al Salasil Printing and Publishing House from Kuwait, while it won the (Best Foreign Publishing House of the Year) award at Book Land Publisher. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah handed over the prizes for the 13th cycle of the Etisalat Prize for Children’s Books, totaling 1.2 million dirhams, to the winners this year. Issued by “Dar Al-Saqi - Al-Saqi for Children and Young People” in Lebanon, and in the picture book category, the book (Super Hero) by writer Nusaiba Al-Uzaibi and photographer Hassan Manasra, issued by Ashgar Publishing and Distribution in the UAE, won.

And won in the category of a book with chapters book (Orange Ball) by the writer Tamara Samir Qashha and the illustrator Yakan Yacoub, issued by Dar Al-Yasmeen for Publishing and Distribution in Jordan.

And in the category of Book of the Year for Young People, the book (A Small Escape) by Afaf Tabbala and illustrator Maryam Hani Abdel Salam, published by Nahdet Misr in Egypt, won the book. As for the comics category, the book (70 kilos) won by Wiam Ahmed Mahmoud and the painter Ali Al-Zaini, published by Dar. Alia for publishing and distribution in Egypt.

After the opening ceremony, His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, toured the corridors of the exhibition, accompanied by the audience, inspecting the participating pavilions and publishing houses.
