Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Kaneko expressed his intention to make efforts for prompt restoration and support for the large amount of pumice stones from the eruption of the submarine volcano in the Ogasawara Islands that have been washed ashore at fishing ports in Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures.

According to the Fisheries Agency, pumice stones from the eruption of a submarine volcano have been confirmed to have been washed ashore at 27 fishing ports in Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures as of 8 o'clock on the 2nd.


Of these, six fishing ports had a large amount of pumice stones that affected the fishing industry.


Since the removal work has begun at the Hentona fishing port in Okinawa prefecture, the Kominato fishing port in Kagoshima prefecture, and the Sakibaru fishing port, preparations and examinations for the removal work are underway at the remaining three fishing ports.



The Fisheries Agency will utilize the disaster recovery project to support 80% of the cost of removal work.


In addition, it seems that there is damage to fishing boats and marine products, and we are working with local governments to understand the damage situation.
