While the Month without tobacco begins Monday, November 1, the national league against cancer wants to strike a blow: it has asked the government "the ban on smoking near all French schools" by decree, reports this Sunday

on JDD

.

The idea is to ban smoking within a radius of 500 meters around some 60,000 schools in the country.

Such initiatives already exist, but number only 4,000 such areas.

According to the president of the National League against Cancer, Daniel Nizri, the extension of this zone to the whole territory "will perhaps make it possible to achieve the objective announced by the Head of State last February, a generation without tobacco in 2030 ”.

Tobacco is responsible for the death of 75,000 people per year in France, and each year 200,000 young people test cigarettes for the first time.

Two-thirds will remain smokers, according to Daniel Nizri.
