Billie Eilish, Moby, Joaquin Phoenix or Alicia Silverstone and Lily Cole have one thing in common, that of being vegetarian and particularly sensitive to the animal cause.

This is why they have decided to mobilize in the run-up to COP26 which will be held in Glasgow from tomorrow.

In a letter addressed to Alok Sharma, the British parliamentarian appointed president of this new climate summit, these personalities call for the impact of livestock to be taken into account as a major factor in climate change.

An initiative that is part of the #TheCowInTheRoom campaign launched by the animal welfare association Humane Society.

A priority evaded

According to the Humane Society, 88 billion animals are raised and slaughtered to produce food each year.

In addition, intensive livestock farming is estimated to be responsible for around 15% of greenhouse gas emissions produced by human activity, just as much as the entire transport sector.

However, this issue does not appear on the COP26 agenda as a priority to be put on the agenda.

For the organization, it is obvious that the achievement of the objectives set by the Paris agreements, that is to say to maintain the increase in global temperature at 2 ° above the pre-industrial area, will not have take place without putting a brake on mass breeding.
