While the public hospital is facing a shortage of caregivers, nearly 1,300 nursing students resigned between 2018 and 2021, said the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, on Thursday, visiting the hospital in Blois (Loir -and-Cher).
"Among nurses, there are 1,300 registered resignations, we are trying to understand the reasons," said the Minister of Health.
According to Olivier Véran, these students who arrived for "their first internship at the hospital in the midst of the Covid epidemic" may have been discouraged, he declared, adding that "this hospital does not correspond to the hospital of day-to-day ".

"Far from the 20%" of closed beds

There are caregivers who had to postpone their leave because it was necessary to save lives (...) There are caregivers who have reached the end of what they were able to give and who today feel tired , who need to take time for themselves, ”acknowledged the Minister of Health.
“Here in Blois, there are 5 medical beds which are closed out of 230 beds in the hospital.
We are far from the 20% I heard about yesterday, ”replied Olivier Véran, reacting to the opinion of the Scientific Council, issued in early October, reporting 20% of beds closed in hospitals.
