In Saitama Prefecture, where there is no sea, a business to cultivate mackerel using artificial seawater has started in Kamikawa Town.

A mackerel farm was newly started in Kamikawa by a company that operates a hot spring facility.

Two columnar ponds with a diameter of about 5 meters and a height of about 1 meter are set up in a 200-square-meter house, and artificial seawater mixed with tap water such as sodium chloride and calcium chloride is circulated. Grow mackerel.

Currently, we are raising fry and other items ordered from Wakayama Prefecture, but in the future we will also work on hatching eggs, aiming to produce about 6 tons per year.

Mackerel is mainly cooked and served at hot spring facilities.

In addition, since the groundwater in this area is close to the composition of seawater, the farm plans to use groundwater instead of tap water in the future.

Natsumi Kamada, the project leader of the farm, said, "Since it is a mackerel that grows on land, we can serve it raw without worrying about parasites. In the future, we will grow mackerel in the groundwater that is also used in hot springs and provide it as our own brand. I want to aim for a farm where I can earn money. "
