The National Bullfighting Prize, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, is intended to recognize the meritorious work of a person, entity or institution during the Spanish season of 2021 in the exercise of the different activities and manifestations of Bullfighting.

In exceptional cases

, duly motivated, it may also be awarded in recognition of a professional career, and is endowed with 30,000 euros.

In the Spanish legal system, bullfighting is part of the cultural heritage worthy of protection throughout the national territory (art. 2 of Law 18/2013). As cultural heritage, an obligation is imposed on all public powers to guarantee its

conservation and promote its enrichment (art. 3 of Law 18/2013)

and specifically establishes the legal obligation of the General Administration of the State to guarantee its conservation and promotion, as well as the obligation to protect the right of all to its knowledge, access and free exercise in its different manifestations (art. 5 of Law 18 / 2013).



In this way, in coherence with the condition of cultural heritage that the Law recognizes in Bullfighting and with the duty of the General State Administration to guarantee its conservation and promotion, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, holder of the powers of the Administration General of the State regarding the promotion and protection of Bullfighting (article 5.1 e of Royal Decree 509/2020, of May 5, which develops the basic organic structure of the Ministry of Culture and Sports) annually announces the National Prize for Bullfighting, intended to recognize the meritorious work of a person, entity or institution in the exercise of the different activities and manifestations of Bullfighting referred to in article 1 of Law 18/2013, of November 12, for the regulation of Bullfighting as a cultural heritage,thereby promoting the dissemination of its cultural values.
