Traditional Hokkai Shrimp fishing using a sailboat driven by the force of the wind began in Notsuke Bay in Betsukai Town, Hokkaido.

In Notsuke Bay, Betsukai Town, Hokkai Shrimp fishing is carried out every year in early summer and autumn, and this autumn fishing began on the 25th.

Notsuke Bay has a shallow water depth, and it is carried out by a traditional method called "Uchise net fishing" using a white sailing boat that advances by the force of the wind so as not to damage the seagrass where shrimp live.

Approximately 20 boats set sail around 6 am, and the fishermen moved their sails according to the strength and direction of the wind to advance the boats.

Then, when the net was pulled up to the boat, the shrimp with green stripes bounced off, and the fishermen chose only those with a body length of more than 9 cm and put them in the box to conserve resources.

Shrimp at this time have eggs and are especially popular.

Mitsuaki Yamaguchi, a fisherman, said, "There are fewer females than usual, but there are many large shrimp. It is delicious both boiled and raw, so I definitely want you to eat it."

Hokkai Shrimp fishing in Notsuke Bay will continue until the 6th of next month.
