The Malian government denies having mandated anyone to speak out with jihadist groups linked to Al Qaida.

However, the information had been confirmed to RFI earlier this week by the Minister of Religious Affairs and the High Islamic Council. Why this backpedaling of the Malian authorities?

What does this cacophony in power mean?

Has the government backed down for fear of the reactions of its foreign partners hostile to dialogue with terrorists?
