After some have reached historic records, pushing the government to announce an exceptional compensation, the prices of road fuels sold in France fell last week, according to official figures released on Monday.

Diesel reached 1.5531 on average per liter, down very slightly from 1.5583 euros (a historic high) the previous week, according to weekly figures from the Ministry of Ecological Transition stopped on Friday.

A check for 100 euros for 38 million French people

The super SP 95 for its part fell to 1.6488 euros against 1.6567 euros the previous week and the SP 95-E10 to 1.6223 euros against 1.6287 euros (also a record).

Prices at the pump follow the price of a barrel of oil, which has rebounded sharply in recent months with the global economic recovery and still limited supplies from certain producing countries.

They also obey several other factors (euro-dollar exchange rate, level of stocks of petroleum products and demand, taxes, etc.).

Faced with this rise in prices, but also broader concerns about purchasing power, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced last Thursday an “inflation compensation” of 100 euros for 38 million French people.
