The 1 and 2 cent coins have made a place for themselves in the hearts of the French.

According to an Ifop study conducted in April and unveiled by

HuffPost

, more than half (51%) want to keep bronze-colored coins in their wallets.

The study conducted for the Monnaie de Paris indicates that, among daily cash users, 54% of respondents are against the removal of these coins.

The percentage is even 42% among people paying overwhelmingly dematerialized.

A vector of social bond

“The freedom of choice between the means of payment remains, more than ever, a pillar of confidence in the currency”, notes Marc Shwartz, CEO of the Monnaie de Paris, quoted by

BFMTV

.

“The study also shows that fiat money is perceived not only as practical and easy to use, but as a vector of social bond.

"

The French mainly fear a rise in prices caused by this suppression.

Prices would be rounded upwards, lowering purchasing power.

This majority opinion still goes against the results of a public consultation carried out by the European Commission in May 2021. Seven out of ten Europeans then decided that these documents should be deleted.
