  On August 20, 2021, with the premiere of the opening drama "Activities Transformed into Human Forms", the fifth Lao She Theatre Festival kicked off.

This year’s drama festival takes as its mission the creation of the cultural business card of “Watching Beijing in the big show”, and the annual theme of “Frequency with the Times and One Heart with the People”. Through the three major sections of repertoire performances, theme forums, and drama teahouses, it will bring audiences in Beijing More than 20 domestic and foreign drama works, nearly 50 performances, forums and cultural activities.

  This Lao She Drama Festival aims at the sustainable development of the drama industry, with the theme of "Campus·Drama·Life", and specially invites professional scholars, well-known directors, screenwriters, drama educators, famous young dramatists and participating theater troupes. Representative, talk freely about the current development of youth drama, understand the inner needs and ideological core of the new generation of drama, and jointly discuss the future development direction and trend of drama.

  The organizer of the forum is the Xicheng District Culture and Tourism Bureau, Beijing Performance Co., Ltd., Beijing Tianqiao Art Center Management Co., Ltd., and the Central Academy of Drama.   The theme of the first half of the college forum was "Aesthetic Education·Drama·Life". Peng Tao, Chairman of the Central Psychology of the International Association of Drama Critics and Director of the Department of Drama and Literature of the Central Academy of Drama served as the host.

Sun Huizhu, professor and doctoral supervisor of Shanghai Theater Academy, Gu Chunfang, professor and doctoral supervisor of Peking University Art School, Tian Huiqun, professor and doctoral supervisor of Beijing Normal University School of Art and Media, and Yan Quanyi, director of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Opera and other well-known experts and scholars were the guests.   At the same time, when experts interpret the current dilemma in the drama education industry, the gap between talent training and market demand, drama is different from a single education form such as music and dance. It can improve comprehensive aesthetics in all aspects and wholeheartedly. Therefore, drama is the most aesthetic education. As a good education carrier, drama education should fully take the lead in aesthetic education.

Comprehensive colleges and art colleges should also attach importance to drama education, continue to bring forth the new and cultivate young drama talents who can adapt to market development and the aesthetic needs of the people.

  Sun Huizhu, professor and doctoral supervisor of Shanghai Theater Academy, discussed the distinction between "big" and "small" in campus drama; Gu Chunfang, professor and doctoral supervisor of Peking University School of Art, shared the traditions and characteristics of campus theater at Peking University; Chinese Academy of Drama Yan Quanyi, director of the Xiwen Department, believes that the emergence of small theater operas in the new century provides young people with a good platform for creation and growth.

Professor Tian Huiqun from the School of Arts and Media of Beijing Normal University gave a wonderful speech on the Beiguo Drama Club and the construction of the university's drama disciplines, and campus original topics.

  The topic of the second half of the forum is "The Road to Enriching and Growing Campus Drama", with the seventh-generation drama director Shao Zehui as the host, drama screenwriter Wen Fangyi, drama screenwriter and director Zu Jiyan, drama screenwriter Zhu Hongxuan, screenwriter and director He Yufan, Director Shao Sifan and other young dramatists who currently have great audience appeal and creative influence in the theater industry are the guests to discuss the path of growth from campus to professional dramatists.
