Getting on the bus without buying a ticket will soon be possible in Clermont-Ferrand and its metropolitan area, announces France 3 Auverge-Rhône-Alpes.

From December 4, public transport (bus, tram and transport on demand) will be free on weekends in the 21 municipalities of Clermont Auvergne Métropole as well as in Pérignat-sur-Allier and Mur-sur-Allier (Puy -de-Dome).

The free service will begin at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday and will end at the last service of Sunday night.

Oliver Bianchi, PS mayor of Clermont-Ferrand and president of the agglomeration, recalled that it was “the 22nd proposal for citizen mobility meetings and it was also a municipal commitment”.

A measure for low-income families

Cyril Cineux, deputy in charge of traffic and sustainable mobility in Clermont-Ferrand, meanwhile referred to the "families most in difficulty" who "will now be able to use transport, every weekend, without thinking about the barrier of cost.

In all the cities where this measure has been implemented, we realize that it is the most popular families who use this service ”.

The ecological argument was also put forward.

The measure "will encourage people to put aside the car", estimated the mayor. In the same concern, the maximum authorized speed of circulation of the cars passes to 30 km / h from December 1.
