The deterioration to which the parliamentary majority that supports the Government, and with a special role the President of Congress, is subjecting to the seat of national sovereignty is extraordinarily serious.

The rectification yesterday of the Lower House Table to finally comply with the Supreme Court ruling and

open the way to withdraw the seat of the Podemos deputy, Alberto Rodríguez, convicted of kicking a policeman

, does not completely correct the damage that the irresponsible

quality of

Meritxell Batet

has caused the institution.

Because his initial contempt for the ruling had placed us before

an unprecedented pulse to Justice

that discredits her to hold her position - no less than the third authority of the State - and that contributes to undermine the pillars of our democratic system.

The High Court sentenced Rodríguez to a month and a half in prison - replaced by a fine - after it was proven that he attacked a policeman during a demonstration in 2014. It hurts our democratic quality and it was incomprehensible to the public that a person sentenced for physical assault

continue as if nothing in the seat instead of resigning immediately

, and that from his party they did not require him to take a step back.

But what could not be expected is what Batet did.

Instead of immediately enforcing the court ruling, he resorted to a trick, that of taking refuge in a report drawn up by the lawyers of the Chamber in which they interpreted that the substitution of the prison sentence for a sanction would leave the sentence without extra penal effects.

A hoax because that report was not binding and, above all, because

The Supreme Court's ruling does not lend itself to disquisitions or interpretations to suit the consumer.

.

But, determined to ignore him, the Socialists joined their votes to the members of Podemos in the Table of Congress and, supplanting the same judges, decided that the condemned Rodríguez would remain in his trench.

Only the subsequent request of the High Court warning of the demand for compliance with the disqualification of the deputy carrying out the corresponding liquidation of the sentence, finally pushed Batet yesterday to amend himself.

Otherwise he risked a lawsuit for trespass or his disapproval

.

And it rains on wet.

The first obligation of the president of Congress is to preserve her good functioning and her respectability, something that she is not doing.

Let's remember the

recent ruling of the Constitutional Court in which it declared illegal the closing of the Courts during the first months of the pandemic

because with this, democratic foundations as essential as that of parliamentary control of the Government were violated.

Not to mention

embarrassing shows that are discrediting the Chamber as the circus of former commissioner Villarejo

on account of a theoretical commission of inquiry that we already see what it is for and in what place it leaves its honorable Members so low.

Batet has been completely delegitimized to continue leading a responsibility so high that it demands, first of all, absolute democratic exemplarity.
