Included in the list of the first rappers in Sweden are names like Per Cussion, Grandmaster Funk and MC Tim.

But Stockholm's DJ René Hedemyr got the idea to start rapping in the DJ booth as early as 1979.  

- It's hip hop, like.

It sounds real, says hip-hop artist Petter when he hears the music for the first time.  

Started as a commercial

When the owner of the record store Record Pool heard the rap in the DJ booth, he got an idea for a commercial song that was recorded on a record.

"If you are a DJ and you wanna be cool, you buy your records at Record Pool", rapper René Hedemyr.  

The record was only printed in a few hundred copies - but was still groundbreaking in Sweden.  

- I am impressed that someone dared to spend money on rap in 1980 in Sweden, says Rigo, former member of Latin Kings and Infinite Mass.
