- Suddenly I realized that anger and misery were the engine of writing, and that I could not write a single sentence anymore, says Ahmad Azzam, who is now a refugee artist in Gothenburg, through the international refugee network ICORN, International Cities of Refuge Network.

Ahmad Azzam is educated in sociology at the University of Damascus, and was a professional screenwriter and newspaper writer in Syria.

Now, when he has lived in Gothenburg for a year, he sees how the freedom that first became limiting for his writing, has now given him new motivation and a new voice.
