After the severe bad weather which affected Marseille and its region, on October 4, several municipalities obtained this Monday the recognition of the state of natural disaster.

Which municipalities are concerned?

According to a press release from the Bouches-du-Rhône department, sent on Monday, no less than 23 municipalities have been recognized as falling under the state of natural disaster.

These are Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, but also neighboring towns: Allauch, Aubagne, Auriol, Belcodène, Cadolive, Carnoux-en-Provence, Cassis, La Destrousse, Fuveau, Gémenos, Gréasque, Meyreuil, Mimet, La Penne-sur-Huveaune, Plan-de-Cuques, Roquefort-la-Bédoule, Roquevaire, Saint-Savournin, Velaux, Venelles or even Ventabren.

According to a press release from the prefecture of Var, 30 municipalities in this department are also concerned.

The targeted area includes the towns of Draguignan and Brignoles, and nearby villages, such as Correns or Cotignac.

What if you are concerned?

"In order to be able to benefit from compensation, individuals (and companies) owners of property having suffered damage must declare their claims to their insurance company within ten days of the recognition of a natural disaster," writes the town hall of Marseille in A press release.

An expert will be commissioned by their insurer to verify the causal link between the meteorological phenomenon and the incident.

The decree noting this decision having been published in

the Official Journal

this Sunday, October 18, the victims have until October 28 to come forward to their insurer.

What about the damaged public buildings?

At the end of these bad weather, public buildings had also been affected, as in Marseille, where schools had to close the day after this rainy episode.

However, as the town hall noted, recognition of the state of natural disaster does not apply to this type of building.

“Nevertheless, the city of Marseille is preparing to apply for the solidarity fund for the equipment of communities and their groups affected by climatic or geological events, indicates the town hall in a press release.

The damage estimate is being finalized.
