Medical warning: Do not drink tea at this time

A British health authority has warned against drinking tea during eating, before or an hour after it because it reduces iron absorption at these times, and the British National Health Service explained that most people should be able to get all the iron they need by eating a varied diet. It is balanced, and if you are taking an iron supplement as prescribed by a doctor, drinking tea can reduce the effectiveness of the supplement.

The body said the body needs iron to produce hemoglobin, a protein found in red blood cells that transports oxygen from your lungs to organs and tissues throughout the body. Without adequate levels of iron, red blood cells cannot effectively carry oxygen to body tissues. Some people take iron supplements if they don't get enough from their diet.

And the authority continued, according to what was reported by the newspaper "Express", that you should avoid drinking tea before taking iron supplements, because tea reduces iron absorption, and in return, if you drink orange juice in advance, this may be beneficial.

The authority explained that "vitamin C" helps the body absorb iron, and therefore it is recommended to eat foods rich in vitamin C with meals;

For example fresh vegetables or fruits, or drinks such as fresh orange juice.

The authority stressed that tea may reduce the absorption of iron from foods, so you should avoid drinking tea with food, before or an hour after it, and drinking tea only between meals.

It is noteworthy that the symptoms of iron deficiency and anemia are fatigue, shortness of breath, pale skin and heart palpitations. Treatment includes medically prescribed iron tablets, and diet can play an important role in preventing and treating iron deficiency anemia.
