“

It's been going since Saturday,

exclaims

L'Observateur Paalga

,

for the 27th edition of FESPACO, the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou. Theme chosen: 'Cinema from Africa and the Diaspora: new perspectives, new challenges'. (…) At last ! Could we exclaim, launches the Ouagalan daily, with many professionals of the 7th art, audiovisual as well as with moviegoers, for whom the postponement of the holding of FESPACO because of Covid-19 sounded like mourning . (...) The opening of this 27th edition was therefore placed under the sign of resistance and resilience against the Covid and against terrorism, a situation interpreted through a show masterfully signed by the Burkinabè choreographer, Serge Aimé Coulibaly, and which revolves around the bravery of Princess Yennenga. The ceremony which alternated spectacle and official speeches gave to see dances, acrobatics, and to enjoy melodious songs proposed by local stars.

 "

17 films in competition

So the program… “

Out of 1,132 films registered, 239 were selected and 17 retained in the fictional feature film category, to compete for the Yennenga Gold Standard, the supreme award,

points out the daily

Le Pays

.

Burkina Faso is represented there by Boubacar Diallo with his film, The Three Lascars.

In this category, 15 other countries are in the running for the holy grail.

These are Angola, Senegal, Cameroon, Nigeria, Tanzania, Somalia, Ivory Coast, Chad, Rwanda, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Namibia, Lesotho and Haiti .

"

So, wonders

Le Pays

, "

who will succeed The Mercy of the Jungle, by Rwandan Joël Karekezi, 2019 winner of the last FESPACO?"

 "

What favorites?

Exactly, the favorites, reveals

Le Point Afrique

: "

the Chadian Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, with Lingui, les ties sacrés, already presented at Cannes this year. Franco-Ivorian filmmaker Philippe Lacôte will also be present with his second feature film La Nuit des rois. A dive into the overcrowded Maca prison (the Abidjan Detention and Correction Center). Another film to watch closely, The White Line by Namibian, Desiree Kahikopo. (…) More rarely present in the cinema, Somalia will be represented this year at Fespaco with The Gravedigger's Wife, by Ahmed Khada (…) Senegal, the country in the spotlight of this 27th edition of Fespaco, is not in rest. The Father of Nafi, the first film directed by Mamadou Dia, has received critical acclaim. The Senegalese filmmaker tells the story of the life of a small village in the north of the country, where two brothers oppose over the marriage of their children,Islamism creeping into these societies serving as a backdrop.

 "

And then the Burkinabé production therefore,

The three lascars

which deals with the question of infidelity: "

It's a satire,

explains to

WakatSéra

,

the director Boubacar Diallo, a portrait of our society which depicts a little our habits and customs with humor and looks for small traditional links to show how we resolve crises through humor and who we are especially in these very agitated, very worrying moments of the Covid-19 crisis, of the security crisis.

We all need a breath of fresh air.

 "

The public at the rendezvous?

And then we come back to the daily Le Pays, with the question of "

the participation of the Burkinabè public, of which one can wonder if he will really have the heart to the party.

Because, it should be remembered, if the postponement of the date saved the event, this edition is being held in the middle of the start of the school year which still remains, for many Burkinabè, a real financial headache.

If we add to this the fact that from the 16th to the 23rd of the month, many civil servants and other workers in the private sector have not gone to the cash register, we wonder what flavor this FESPACO 2021 will have.
