  In December 2020, Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice", made arrangements for super-high-yield research in 2021 during the propagation of southern Hainan, and proposed to implement double-cropping in Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hunan and other double-cropping rice regions. The research and demonstration of rice yield of 1500 kg per mu, Hengnan County Demonstration Base is one of the research points of 1500 kg per mu of double-cropping rice in Hunan.

  Gan Zongheng, a senior agronomist from the Hengnan County Agriculture and Rural Bureau, who participated in the growth and management of the third generation of hybrid rice from soaking and raising seedlings to transplanting seedlings, to fertilization and irrigation, and pest control, told reporters that Hengnan County belongs to a subtropical monsoon humid climate zone. Conducive to the growth of crops, it is one of the "Top 100 Counties in National Grain Production".

In 2020, the third-generation hybrid rice experimental demonstration base in Hengnan County has achieved a major breakthrough of "1500 kg per mu in double cropping".

  The difference between this year’s (2021) late rice test field and last year’s (2020) late rice test field is that the early part of this year has always been hot and dry, and every day is 378 (Celsius). The temperature did not drop until a few days ago. This year's temperature and light resources are better than last year, and our seed setting rate is higher than last year.

  [Explanation] Gan Zongheng said that according to the experimental and demonstration technical plan formulated by the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center, the early rice variety at the base of Hengnan County is hybrid rice Liangyou 168, with a yield of 667.8 kg per mu.

In order to ensure the smooth progress of the late rice research, Hengnan County has organized a dedicated work class with a strong sense of responsibility and exquisite business, through timely sowing, careful seedling cultivation, appropriate age transplanting, reasonable dense planting, reasonable fertilization, ensuring soil fertility, green prevention and control, Eco-environmental protection and other measures, in the late rice production test and acceptance, the final yield per mu reached 936.1 kg.
