Immediate results: the most demanded medical treatments that erase wrinkles and sagging
October 1, 2021 is the date on which
the 'Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act'
has come into force in
England
, a law that prohibits
the use of botox for cosmetic purposes,
punctures through, in children under
18 years.
The regulation also includes among its lines
the prohibition of the use of other fillers, such
as hyaluronic acid, for example, and warns that the medical-aesthetic practice affects both English
and foreign
locals
(interesting clarification given the increase in beauty tourism in different countries). countries).
Botox in England: what has led to its ban on minors
The 'Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act' finds its roots in the striking data of cosmetic interventions in minors in England.
According to the
Daily Mail,
where
Nadine Dorries, the
English Health Minister
,
also commented on the issue
, as many as
41,000 were registered in 2020.
Since April 2021, work has been done on the law, presented in Parliament then, in order to protect 'children' from the potential risks of dermal fillers, apart from other
considerations of ethical origin.
The aforementioned law considers that people under 18 years of age, due to their emotional and mental maturity, should not have access to aesthetic interventions that circulate freely on the market, and even less so
without personalized advice
from
qualified doctors and trained psychologists.
Botox in people under 18 years of age: how to act in Spain
To find out what the action protocols are in Spain, we spoke with Dr.
Petra Vega López, a
graduate in Medicine and Surgery, an expert in aesthetic medicine and
President
since 2012 of the Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine
(SEME).
She explains that, in our country,
the technical sheet of
the products used,
the prospectuses
, is followed as
a legal guide for action
.
"In the case of the three types of botulinum toxins that infiltrate in Spain, they all indicate that
it is not recommended under 18 years of age," he
clarifies.
The recommendation, which does not prohibit, leaves the door open to intervene in minors with botox if there are
medical problems
(remember that botox is used to correct tics,
excessive sweating ...)
or, in the case
of other fillers,
when there are cases of significant
asymmetries or deformities
that can affect the life and psychological state of patients.
In those cases,
the consent and
authorization
signature
of
the parents or guardians
is imperative.
Between 18 and 26 years old, the youngest legal age group to perform infiltrations in aesthetic medicine, the most demanded is lip augmentation.
Dr. Vega emphasizes that in Spain this is the standard to follow, whether we talk
about botox, hyaluronic acid or other materials.
and it is respected by professionals, and from their point of view
as a scientific society.
In other words, the prospects and recommendations and their respect
dictate judgment.
What does the youth strip do
According to aesthetics experts in England, among the most demanding interventions in those under 18, which has raised the hare to create the law, is that of
foxy eyes.
The technique consists of
lengthening and tearing the gaze
as is usually done with the help of makeup, using eyeliner, to create that effect
of fox or feline eyes,
which they do with botox.
Dr. Vega comments that in Spain this effect is not highly demanded,
the 'publicity' is greater
(and when it is, it is done with tension threads) in the range of young people who can undergo medico-aesthetic interventions
(from 18 to 26b years) .
Not only, in general, a large part of the medical community advises against it since "it is something that does not seem
very aesthetic or pretty to us,
but it increases
facial aggressiveness".
On the other hand, Vega does confirm that the younger and more aesthetically-friendly strip demands changes.
In Spain, specifically,
the top 3 in facial aesthetics
go through:
Lip augmentation or remodeling: it
is done with hyaluronic acid, it is the material that can be used in the area.
Cheekbones, to mark the features on very round faces: it
is made first with hyaluronic acid, but other materials such as calcium hydroxyapatite or polycaprolactone are also used.
Rhinomodelation without surgery:
corrections in the nose without going into the operating room go through the use of hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite.
And the networks, do they influence the youth demand for touch-ups?
The reasons for retouching in under 18s in England
'blame' social networks
and the beauty models that are reflected in them.
In the case of the youngest and most legal strip in Spain, from 18 to 26, Petra Vega confirms it: "The image they project on the networks is the first cause for undergoing an aesthetic intervention."
According to the expert, networks today
are what television was in the 80s and 90s:
if the TV says it, it will be true.
And he offers a conclusive reflection on the matter, based on his experience: "The young person educated in social networks, because it is his medium, is
very uncritical
of what can be manipulated or misinterpreted."
And he clarifies it this way: a photo with freshly retouched lips
is real but not.
"That is, that photo at that time is real but it
does not tell the whole truth:
this result is the result of inflammation, it will not be until at least 15 days when you will see
how the real lip looks
due to the intervention in question" .
