After weeks of stagnation, the infection rate in Germany seems to be picking up some speed again.

The 7-day incidence was for the first time since September 20.

again above the mark of 70. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Saturday morning at 70.8.

For comparison: the previous day the value was 68.7, a week ago it was 64.4 (previous month: 76.3).

The health authorities in Germany reported 10,949 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.

This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5:52 a.m.

A week ago the value was 8854 infections.

According to the new information, 75 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 65 deaths.

The RKI has counted 4,365,107 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions - was given by the RKI on Friday as 2.02 (Thursday 1.93).

A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.

The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,141,500.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 94,601.

The German Society for Child and Adolescent Medicine advises children and adolescents from the age of twelve to have a corona vaccination.

"After data from over ten million children and adolescents have been collected, I recommend vaccination to those over the age of twelve in general and unreservedly," said the chairman of the society, Jörg Dötsch, to the newspapers of the editorial network Germany (RND, Saturday editions).

"I advertise it as urgently as I do with adults."

Biontech applies for approval for five to eleven year olds in the EU

The risk-benefit assessment is clearly in favor of the vaccination, he told the RND.

With a view to fighting pandemic in schools, Dötsch advised an “intermediate way”: “We still don't want children to be infected - but we also absolutely want to avoid the youngest having to suffer again from the consequences of the school closings and the isolation measures,” said he.

The infection numbers are "no longer the decisive factor, not even if they are very high regionally".

The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) had already recommended corona vaccinations for all people aged twelve and over in August.

Vaccines from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer as well as Moderna are regularly approved for all people aged twelve and over.

The Mainz vaccine manufacturer Biontech, together with the US partner company Pfizer, applied for approval of its corona vaccine for five to eleven year olds in the EU on Friday.

The two companies announced that they have submitted data from a clinical study to the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
