The biosphere reserves are spaces in which man and nature coexist in harmony today and forever.

A cover letter that not all destinations can boast about, but Extremadura Siberia since 2019, a corner of the province of Badajoz that tourists have not yet discovered en masse.

We are facing a natural paradise that brings together an enviable wealth of habitats and landscapes watered by immense bodies of water.

In autumn, the territory gains integers.

Bird watching (with 270 species of birds, it has nothing to envy to Monfragüe) hiking, kayaking, transhumant experiences, watching the bellowing, collecting honey ... the proposals to connect with nature are very numerous in this Extremadura within Extremadura.

These are five plans to discover and savor the richness of this 155,000 hectare biosphere reserve.

The promised land of the setero

The different ecosystems of La Siberia favor the birth of hundreds of species of mushrooms and throughout the autumn many activities are organized around this wild delicacy with millions of faithful.

From

hiking trails with mushroom picking

to tasting dishes made with chanterelles to mycological talks ... There is something for everyone, from those who want to learn to identify mushrooms to those who are already an expert.

The Extremadura Mycological Society also celebrates its 40th anniversary this year in La Siberia with open and free activities (on November 20 and 21) and the gastronomic tourism days around the Mycosfera níscalo meet in Castilblanco the first week of December.

Live grazing in motion

The residents of La Siberia do it every year because here the tradition of transhumance is still practiced.

Moreover, it is what has allowed

indigenous

breeds of

sheep and goats

to continue to exist

, such as the Siberian black merino and the Extremaduran verata and retinta goats.

On November 13 they celebrate their Festival of Trasterminance with a display of pastoral foods, native sweets and centuries-old songs, but above all, with a walk between the towns of Tamurejo and Siruela following the

Cañada Real de las Merinas

(9.5 km .).

There is no better way to discover the landscapes of the dehesa and the wetlands of the region ... and with the best company.

Play at being an amateur astronomer

Badajoz is one of the few optimal places left in Europe for stargazing.

Something good had to be being in the distance and having the bad communications that have given La Siberia its name: zero light pollution and many many nights of completely clear skies.

The territory proposes several astrotourism activities to prove it.

It also has an exceptional place for this practice: the heavenly viewpoint of

Helechosa de los Montes

.

These luminous stones at night make it possible to interpret the landscape of the stars, as if it were a map of the sky.

The soundtrack is played by deer and fallow deer.

escarapuche, cheeses, sweets ...

Cheese, honey, lamb stew, ajoblanco ... so far all widely known. And the escarapuche? This is the typical fish salad from Extremadura Siberia, where there is much (and very delicious) to enjoy sitting at a table.

Here are some clues: In

Herrera of the Duke

is recommended La Marina (with a Repsol solete), but also the churros

regordos

of Since 1996 churrerría Some of the

must

gastro

area also include cheeses

Quesería Los Nogales

and graves, drawer cupcakes or jackets from

La Casa de los Dulces

. And to eat with a view, there is nothing like going to

La barca del tío Vito

, the restaurant at the foot of the García Sola reservoir, ideal for trying the escarapuche de Peloche.

In

Puebla de Alcocer

you can go for a Utrero cow cheese (unique in Extremadura).

You cannot return from Tamurejo without Sister Antonia's bodigos or bread.

The Glasai artisan jams made by Victoria in

Valdecaballeros

are also essential.

Pure air sport

Siberia is a green territory and, above all, very blue. A liquid land with one of the largest stretches of coastline in Spain. This translates into a huge range of water sports and adventures to do any weekend. From touring

the impressive García Sola reservoir

by

kayak, boat or canoe

and arriving by paddling to the mysterious Valdecaballeros dolmen to practicing water skiing or paddle surfing. Each town has its piers and its beaches. And those who love fishing, be careful because these are waters with large numbers of pike,

black bass

, carp and barbel

. And once on land, there are activities for everyone:

horseback riding

, 4x4 routes or mountain biking ... | More information at lasiberiabiosfera.com
