Since the 1970s, wallabies have taken up residence in the forest of Rambouillet (Yvelines).

In 2015, hunters had identified 150 of them. However, as RTL reported on Tuesday, these little kangaroos are said to be disappearing for an unknown reason.

Society magazine therefore investigated to clarify this mystery.

Originally, it was the Basel Zoo (Switzerland) which offered seven to a lord of Émancé who had a small wilderness reserve.

But the latter not being very careful about the management of his park, the marsupials had ended up fleeing.

The climate of the region suited them, they had then reproduced quickly in nature.

Between 200 and 1,200 euros

Road accidents then multiplied and the town hall of Émancé had to issue certificates of the presence of kangaroos on its territory to insurers of motorists who had difficulty believing it.

But for about five years, the wallabies of the forest of Rambouillet would be disappearing.

If initially the hunters, who complained of the presence of marsupials, were suspected, another explanation could remove this mystery.

Our colleagues have discovered on Le Bon Coin dozens of advertisements offering wallabies, between 200 and 1,200 euros.

Not being afraid of humans, they would be easily captured and sold as "new pets".
