Noam could not have sang better, and defined, Goldorak than in the credits of the cartoon: "Who is he?"

Where is he from ?

A formidable robot of new times ”.

Adapted from a manga by Go Nagai and launched on Japanese television in 1975,

UFO Robo Grendizer

arrived three years later on French screens under the title

Grendizer

.

And nothing will be the same for Japanese culture in general, and manga in particular, in France.

However, 45 years and several birthdays later, Goldorak is still this formidable robot of new times, as the news proves, with an event comic, a Parisian exhibition, and a return to television on France 4.

"Goldorak", an event and French comic strip

After

Albator

and before

Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque

, the publisher Kana revisits another monument and precursor of manga culture in France with

Goldorak

, available in bookstores on Friday. If it is indeed a question of nostalgia, opportunism is quickly swept away by the passion of the people involved in the project, and there are no less than five between the screenwriter Xavier Dorison, the cartoonists Denis Bajram, Brice Cossu, Alexis Sentenac, and colorist Yoann Guillo. You will understand, this new

Goldorak

is a French comic book.

The authors are real fans, they were in front of their television sets on Friday evening waiting for each new episode.

“The best moment of the week” for Xavier Dorison.

They discovered a taste for science fiction there and liked not being taken for kids.

It is this spirit that they wanted to respect and convey in this comic strip in the form of a sequel, located ten years after the end of the animated series.

A daring but profitable bias, because it allows to talk about the absence, and therefore the role, of Actarus and Grendizer in the world, for men.

The fans ?

"Goldorak - Xperienz", an exhibition in Paris until October 30

From September 15 until October 30, the Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris is hosting an exhibition, or rather a retrospective, around the giant robot, from its creation by Go Nagai to its cultural and generational impact through the themes and references that he explores and of which the viewer of the 1980s was not necessarily aware. Celluloids, magazines, derivative products and above all rare toys, the collection presented is large and above all 100% French, further proof that France has been a welcoming land for the alien robot.

The "xperienz" also continues on October 28 at the Grand Rex, still in Paris, with a screening evening, with a film and a selection of episodes chosen by the fans, music, with the famous compositions Shunsuke Kikuchi performed by an orchestra, and especially giant karaoke, with the presence of singers Noam, Enriqué, Noam, Jean-Pierre Savelli or Bernard Minet.

"Goldorak", the cartoon back to France 4

With all these celebrations, it would almost have been a shame not to be able to (re) discover the original series. It exists of course on DVD and Blu-ray, but France Télévisions will allow everyone, all generations, to see it, both on Okoo and on France 4. You will be able to find 37 episodes on Friday 22 October and the following 37 Friday, October 29 on Okoo (app and france.tv), then every Sunday, from October 24, at 7:25 p.m. and daily from Monday to Friday at 6:55 p.m. on France 4 from October 25. But by the way, Grendizer, who is he? Where is he from ?

As his planet Euphor is destroyed by Vega's forces, Prince Actarus flees aboard the robot Grendizer, built by Vega, towards Earth.

When Vega sets out to conquer it, from a base installed on the far side of the Moon, Actarus is determined to protect his new adopted planet… The rest has gone down in history.
