Their bars have names like “Lamm”, “Krass Böser Wolf”, “Butter & Korn” - and they mix up the capital: Johann Lautenschlager (30) and Dustin Franke (29) from Berlin are “pioneers” at the Mixology Bar Awards " been awarded.

The two bar operators are honored for their courage to have opened new bars such as “Stück” in Kreuzberg and “Bademeister” in Weißensee despite the slow going out in the pandemic.

The prices of the magazine "Mixology", which deals with trends from the world of counters, have been around since 2007.

Typically, the Mixology Bar Awards have categories like “Bar of the Year”.

This time, because of Corona - as in 2020 - there were other categories instead of the usual ones.

It should be about honoring heads of the scene for their work in the Corona crisis.

Two bars, two concepts

Opening bars during the crisis and lockdown testifies to a special pioneering spirit, says "Mixology" editor-in-chief Nils Wrage of the German press agency.

He praises the winners Lautenschlager, who moved from Bavaria, and Franke, who comes from Hesse.

The Berlin properties “Bademeister” and “Stück”, which opened in 2021, have different concepts.

The "Bademeister" bar sees itself more as a neighborly bar, in which there are good drinks as well as beer and wine. In total, the two restaurateurs are now involved in six bars. Lautenschlager also runs a welding workshop in Lichtenberg and therefore does a lot of construction work in the properties itself.

Another award went to other Berlin bar operators, namely Katja Hiendlmayer and Olaf Matthey from the Neukölln bar “Bürkner Eck”.

They received an award in the “The Concept in Bottles” category.

During Corona, many bar operators delivered bottled cocktails.

"Every bottled cocktail from the" Bürkner Eck "is freshly prepared after ordering and lovingly handwritten before it is delivered by bike or picked up by the guest at the bar."

In the years before the Corona crisis, “Mixology” had chosen places like “The Kinly Bar” in Frankfurt and the “Velvet” in Berlin-Neukölln.
