  In recent years, Wanzhou District of Chongqing City in the Three Gorges Reservoir area has placed the restoration of the Yangtze River's ecological environment in an overwhelming position. For protection and management, the green ecological corridor of the fluctuating zone was initially constructed, an important ecological barrier was constructed for the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and the magnificent landscape of "the beautiful banks of the Gaoxia Pinghu Lake and the clear water of a river flowing eastward" was created.

Implement ecological restoration and change the fluctuating zone into a green belt

  As a transition zone between land and water, the water-level fluctuating zone plays an important role in connecting the water and land environment and maintaining the ecological balance.

However, due to the periodic rise and fall of water levels in the fluctuating zone, few plants can adapt to the ecological environment of the fluctuating zone.

The ecological management of the fluctuating zone has therefore become a world-class problem.

  Facing the problem of ecological management in the fluctuating zone, Wanzhou District used natural restoration and man-made governance to simultaneously develop a stable water-level fluctuation in the fluctuating zone with an area of ​​about 25 square kilometers and a coastline of 350 kilometers. ecosystem.

  Twelve years ago, there was a barren beach under the South Bridge of the Wanzhou Yangtze River Bridge. However, with the start of the pilot project of ecological management of the fluctuating zone in the area, the first batch of 208 Zhongshan fir trees were planted here, and the barren beach began to turn green. The ecology is gradually restored.

  After that, Zhongshan fir was also planted on the fluctuating zones in Xintian Town, Yingdu Town, Wuling Town, Xikou Township, Dazhou Town, Yanshan Township, Gaofeng Town and Bai'anba Sub-district where the Yangtze River flows. , The area of ​​water-level fluctuating zone treatment is gradually expanding.

  Today, 12 years later, Zhongshan fir takes root in the fluctuating zone of the Wanzhou River Bay section of the Yangtze River and grows into a dense fir forest. Greenbelt.

  This is the result of Wanzhou District's exploration of the flood-tolerant tree species Zhongshan fir planting to restore the ecology of the water-level zone, and it is also the wisdom and contribution of Wanzhou District to the management of the water-level zone in the Three Gorges Reservoir. strength.

  In recent years, Wanzhou District has adopted the strategy of “natural restoration + artificial restoration”, piloted and promoted the planting of submergence-resistant plants such as Zhongshan fir, water birch, bermudagrass, and cocklebur, greening the reservoir bank for 70 kilometers, and the fluctuating zone with herbaceous plants. As a result, the bare river beach gradually evolved into a flood-resistant meadow system, forming a riverside grassland landscape.

  At the same time, Wanzhou District has also initiated wetland construction projects such as Tianxian Lake, Crescent Bay, Huangbai River, Tuokou, etc. through the establishment of the Wuling Wetland Nature Reserve, which has promoted the gradual formation of the wetland ecosystem of the fluctuating zone and formed the wetland of the fluctuating zone. Oasis landscape.

Carry out engineering treatment of water-fluctuating zone into landscape zone

  When the water was full of Pinghu Lake, the Bailuwan Wetland Park near the south end of the Wanzhou Yangtze River Second Bridge was submerged in a large area, but hundreds of tall Zhongshan firs still stood upright in the water, leaving only the green tree heads out of the river, forming a water fir forest. It provides an excellent place for birds to find food and settle down.

Flocks of egrets flew down here, foraging and chasing between the river surface and the cedar forest. The scene was very spectacular.

  When the water level receded, green shoots and flowers bloomed quickly on the bare river beach.

The 200,000 square meters of Gesang flowers, zinnias, and sulphur chrysanthemums form a sea of ​​flowers that cannot be seen, attracting many citizens to wander in and take pictures.

  The water-level-fluctuating zone is transformed into a landscape belt, which is achieved by the Wanzhou District based on protection and utilization, in the densely populated urban area and the market town section of the town, and guided by ecology, safety, and beauty, the water-level-fluctuating zone has been implemented by the implementation of reservoir bank renovation and landscape enhancement engineering measures The results.

  In recent years, in view of the geological structure characteristics of the water-level-fluctuating zone, Wanzhou District has successively implemented the Wanyizhong to Luma area, Mixigou to the Fourth Bridge of the Yangtze River, the north bank of the riverside ring, the music square node, and the Wuling, Xinxiang, Huangbai and other water-level fluctuation zones. Comprehensive remediation projects have completed more than 40 kilometers of reservoir bank remediation and flood prevention and bank protection projects on both the north and south banks. The urban water-level drawdown zone should basically be remedied, and a solid engineering protection line has been constructed.

  Under the premise of satisfying geological safety, Wanzhou District pays attention to the perfect function of water and recreation, combined with the implementation of the reservoir bank project and the transformation of municipal facilities, the construction of lower river stairways, leisure squares, hydrophilic walkways, protective railings, and activity platforms, and red sand A number of riverside parks around the lake such as Qiu and Sakuradu have implemented a number of waterfront landscape projects such as hydrophilic plank roads, platforms, shoals, etc., effectively improving the ecological environment of the water-level fluctuating zone, and the riverside surrounding lake area has become a scenic area with harmony between people and water. , Attracting thousands of visitors.
