The Bolshoi Theater cancels a second show after an actor was killed on stage

Moscow's world-renowned Bolshoi Theater canceled its show on Sunday after an actor was killed on stage by a piece of theatrical decor falling during a performance on Saturday.

Theater spokeswoman Katerina Novikova told dpa that tickets for the popular Russian opera "Sadko" by director Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov can be returned at the box office.

The 37-year-old actor was crushed by the decoration piece when it fell during a change of stage setting.

Novikova said it was a "tragic accident" whose circumstances needed clarification.

Detectives are already working in the theater.

The show was stopped on Saturday and the audience was asked to leave the hall.

Then the show was completely cancelled.

Some spectators said they initially thought the accident was part of the show, until someone on stage shouted, “Call an ambulance!

There is blood here.”

It is noteworthy that the Bolshoi Theater is the largest state theater in Russia, and is world famous for its ballet and opera performances.
