The police allowed local residents, whose houses are under threat of destruction, to later collect their personal belongings.
According to the European Union Emergency Management Service, 1,186 buildings were destroyed on the island, more than 400 hectares of territory are covered with lava.
The eruption of a volcano near the village of El Paso began on September 19.
About 6 thousand local residents were evacuated.
