“We don’t want Saad Lamjarred in Egypt.” The curse of “harassment” is chasing the Moroccan artist

Activists on social media platforms in Egypt launched a campaign to prevent the appearance of Moroccan artist Saad Lamjarred in the Egyptian media.

The hashtag “We don’t want Saad Lamjarred in Egypt” was launched on social media, coinciding with the announcement of his intention to attend an episode of the “Sahranin” program, which is broadcast on the private “ONTV” channel.

Because of the great pressure caused by this campaign, the Egyptian channel withdrew from broadcasting the episode that was scheduled for next Wednesday, and activists demanded his expulsion because of accusations of harassment against him.

The episode in which Lamjarred will participate with the artist Amir Karara was scheduled to be shown on Wednesday evening, but it was postponed without any clarification from the broadcasting channel.

According to a number of local newspapers and media sites, during the past hours, several angry campaigns and campaigns were launched, calling on the channel not to host just because of the accusations of rape and sexual harassment against him.

In October 2020, Saad Lamjarred was subjected to a campaign described as “violent” as he was accused in 3 rape cases in the United States, France and Morocco, and a number of artists participated in the campaign, including Mayan El-Sayed and Aida El-Kashef.

Saad was arrested for the first time on suspicion of beating and raping a woman in New York in 2010, and six years later, he was accused of sexually assaulting a Frenchwoman named Laura Priola, and in the fall of 2018 he was accused again of raping a girl on the Riviera beach in France.

Despite this, his songs, which were released amid all these accusations, achieved record viewing and listening numbers.

According to the BBC, there is a belief among fans of the Moroccan singer that his wide Arab and European fame caused him to be exposed to a "conspiracy", and some of his fans say that the women who accused him of raping them "did it for the sake of fame by exploiting Saad Lamjarred's fame."
