China News Service, Hong Kong, October 8. The Registration and Electoral Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on the 8th that the nomination period for the 2021 Legislative Council general election will begin on October 30 and end on November 12.
The general election of the Legislative Council will be held on December 19, with 20 members from geographical constituencies, 30 members from functional constituencies, and 40 members from the election committee sector, for a total of 90 members.
A spokesperson for the Registration and Electoral Office said that nominees should submit their nomination forms as soon as possible so that even if there are any errors or omissions on the forms, they can have time to correct them before the nomination deadline.
The spokesman said that the nominee for a geographical constituency election, a functional constituency election or an election committee sect election must be a registered elector of the geographical constituency who is over 21 years old, and must also normally reside in Hong Kong within the 3 years immediately before the nomination. He is also a Chinese citizen who is a permanent resident of Hong Kong who has no right of abode in a foreign country.
However, the following 12 functional constituencies accept nominations from non-Chinese citizens or permanent residents of Hong Kong with foreign residency rights, including: the legal profession; the accounting profession; the engineering profession; construction, surveying, urban planning and gardens; real estate and construction Industry; tourism; business (first); industry (first); finance; financial services; import and export; and insurance.
The nominees for a functional constituency election must be registered voters of the relevant functional constituency or have close ties to the relevant functional constituency.
As for the election of the Election Committee sector, the nominated person does not need to be a member of the Election Committee.
The Electoral Affairs Commission has appointed Returning Officers for 10 geographical constituencies, 28 functional constituencies and the Election Committee sector to handle nomination forms and other election matters.
