The suspect of the serious explosion in Gothenburg about a week ago is dead. A lifeless man was found on Wednesday morning in a body of water in the center of Sweden's second largest city and has already been identified, the public prosecutor said.

After the deliberately caused detonation in an apartment building in Gothenburg's Annedal district, the man was searched intensively.

"It's nice that he has now been found - although we had hoped he was still alive," said police chief Anders Börjesson.

The police do not currently believe that the death was due to a crime.

The investigation into the suspect is now being discontinued - but those into the cause of the explosion will continue.

The explosion occurred last Tuesday in an apartment building.

Subsequently, fires broke out in the building.

16 people were then hospitalized, four of them with serious injuries.
