The Public Health Commission has approved this Tuesday to administer a booster dose of the covid-mRNA-type vaccine to those over 70 years of age, which will begin to be injected at the end of October, when six have already passed months from the inoculation of the second dose.

Meanwhile, the pandemic continues to recede.

Coronavirus infections have dropped by 21.15% in the last seven days, while the accumulated incidence at 14 days this Tuesday stands at 52.51 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, two points less than yesterday.

7.00 Madrid opposes the third dose for people over 70 due to lack of evidence

The Community of Madrid has opposed this Tuesday to applying, as approved by the Public Health Commission, a booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine to the population over 70 years old because "there is no scientific evidence" and it does not see "urgency" in administering it.

Despite the position held by Madrid and Galicia, the Commission has approved this Tuesday the booster dose of the messenger RNA vaccine, which will begin to be injected to those over 70 years of age at the end of October, when six months have already passed from the inoculation of the second dose.

"At this time it is important to start the flu vaccination campaign in late October for those over 65 years of age", sources from the regional government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso have argued against the decision.

They maintain from the Madrid Government that "there is no urgency to administer the booster dose" and they are based to make this assertion on the vaccine effectiveness data in these age groups that the vaccine presentation has presented and that, they emphasize, match their own estimates.

The agreement adopted this Tuesday by the Public Health Commission implies that the covid vaccination is administered "in parallel" to the flu vaccine.

The decision of the Public Health Commission comes one day after the European Medicines Agency (EMA) endorsed the use of a booster dose of Pfizer in the general population over 18 years of age, six months after completing the regimen, and an additional injection of this drug or Moderna to people with a weakened immune system, at least 28 days after the second dose.
