In the United States, mass distribution is once again fearing a risk of shortage on the shelves.

The Costco supermarket chain thus decided on Thursday to limit the number of packages of toilet paper purchased by its customers.

Paper towels and some water bottles are also affected by this restriction, reports BFM TV.

The Costco chain is the fourth largest retailer in the country.

It is worried about possible shortages on the shelves of its stores for two reasons: a current demand which is still very strong but also significant difficulties in having its merchandise delivered.

All of this, linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Because if the health crisis is gradually slowing down in the United States, several thousand deaths are still observed on certain days.

And in some states, like Texas, infection rates are still high.

"Panic" purchases for fear of new confinement

This situation therefore leads to over-stocking of basic necessities in households for fear of further confinement. And the first victim of these “panic” purchases is none other than toilet paper. In addition, it is already difficult to get products to stores, especially when they come from abroad. But the United States is also experiencing a shortage of truck drivers to transport goods.

But for now, don't panic.

American suppliers claim to be able to meet the needs of customers, who must nevertheless refrain from robbing stores.

A situation that is not comparable with that of France.

"There will be no shortage of pasta, toilet paper or flour," said Michel Biero, the boss of Lidl France, at the microphone of BFM Business in early September.
