The 19-year-old student, who threw an egg on Emmanuel Macron on Monday during his visit to Sirha, was interned at Vinatier psychiatric hospital at the end of his custody, we learned from the prosecution on Tuesday from Lyon.
The suspect was the subject of a psychiatric examination which concluded "to the abolition of his discernment" and to "the need for compulsory hospitalization".
He was not known to the justice and police services.
The young man, who was "at a short distance" from the President of the Republic, threw him an egg which had bounced off his shoulder without even breaking.
He was arrested and handcuffed in the process before being evacuated to another room and taken into police custody.
