Gong Li: The actor should settle down, don't walk in such a hurry

Yangcheng Evening News reporter Wang Li

The 11th Beijing International Film Festival is in full swing.

Directed by Lou Ye and starring Gong Li, Zhang Songwen, and Zhao Youting, the film "Lanxin Theater" will be unveiled as the finale of the closing film of the Beijing International Film Festival, and will land on the theaters on October 15.

During the "Gong Li Film Master Class" held during the Beijing Film Festival, Gong Li invited director Lou Ye and actors Zhang Songwen and Zhao Youting to conduct in-depth discussions on film performing arts with the theme of "Movies and Us".

Recalling his career, chatting about creation, and talking about acting skills, Gong Li shared his experience in filming for more than 30 years.

"In this fast-paced era, as an actor, you should settle down, don't walk in such a hurry. You have to have time to calm down, slow down, and think about it. The profession of an actor can only be held by love."

Gong Li

There are also experiences of "getting out at a glance"

In the conversation, the most interesting part is to recall your own experience in the industry.

Although she watched a lot of movies when she was a child, Gong Li never thought about becoming a movie actor, because her mother kept saying that her eyes were not big enough and her skin was not white enough.

"My mother said, you will become a teacher from now on." Gong Li recalled with a smile.

When entering college, Gong Li tried to apply for music majors and normal colleges, but the feedback they received was inappropriate.

Until he met teacher Yin Dawei, with his encouragement, Gong Li applied for the Central Academy of Drama and eventually became a member of the first film and television class.

Gong Li described herself as a blank sheet of paper at the time, "I don't know how to perform, I only know how to use my real feelings to enter the characters."

When I was a sophomore, I went to try out a certain TV show. There was no performance and no lines. The director just watched it and asked to go back and wait for the news. In the end, he didn't get any reply.

"At that time, I felt a little bit hit. I thought why I returned without letting me try it." Gong Li said frankly that she was really unwilling at the beginning, but she "returned back" because she received Zhang Yimou soon. Director’s invitation to the crew of "Red Sorghum".

Gong Li said that she would like to share this experience with young people who are eager to enter the industry to become professional actors. "It doesn't matter if the audition is rejected. The important thing is to seize all the time and opportunities to hone your basic skills."

Zhang Songwen

Gong Li in Liu Peiqi's notes inspired me

The filming of "Red Sorghum" was not all smooth sailing, because Gong Li has been acting in dramas and sketches at school, and she is also a drama actor.

When it came to the crew of "Red Sorghum", Gong Li was stunned: "Because no one is watching after being on the stage, we can play freely, perform freely, and be criticized later. The filming of "Red Sorghum" is a plot from the middle. When I started filming, because of the scene, I had to sort it out by myself. At that time, I was just in the freshman year and didn't understand anything. After that, I gradually understood through communicating with the director and actors."

From the beginning of "Qiuju's Lawsuit", Gong Li really realized the filming mechanism of the film.

"The movie was filmed in secret, it feels like a pseudo-documentary. The actors have only one route. From here to there, the camera doesn't know where the camera is. 80% of the film is shot like this, so you can act as you like. How to act. When you really enter that role, you can act like on a stage with a high degree of freedom. After the filming of that movie is finished, I really have a different feeling about the film’s image, which is different from the camera The relationship is different."

Zhang Songwen mentioned his early experience, he said Gong Li had a huge influence on his acting career.

When he rented the actor Liu Peiqi’s room, he accidentally found Liu Peiqi’s "Autumn Juju" filming notes, so he squatted on the ground and watched it for three hours. A senior in a very high position, and when I saw this note, I learned that she did it this way, observed life, and entered the characters. It was really shocked and inspired."

Lou Ye

Good acting is forgetting acting

The shooting of "Lanxin Theater" brought Gong Li back to the state it was in "Qiu Ju's Lawsuit".

"Director Lou Ye doesn't care how the actors act, the scene is like this, this scene is like this, these lines are going to be said, and then let us go and act casually, and he won't stop calling." First, second At the time of writing, everyone was more restrained, and when everyone got tired, they began to relax, which was the state Lou Ye wanted.

Gong Li said: "So why do I feel that when I made this movie, I felt the freedom of being an actor, and the director gave us the most room for development."

In Lou Ye's view, an actor must be able to speak and do things according to his own logic.

"This is very important. Because at the scene, an actor is actually himself and the role. He has done a lot of preparatory work in the early stage and has a lot of hints, so his behavior on the scene is very precious. I think It is a very important prerequisite to help actors enter the role or shape the character. Every actor will have such a moment, sometimes in this scene, sometimes in another scene, it is a fleeting moment that we need to record "Lou Ye said that every director is different, and his understanding and judgment of performance are also different. For him, good acting skills mean forgetting acting skills.

Gong Li also agreed with this: "I think the term'acting skills' is not quite right. In fact, actors do not need any skills, because when a technique is used to express characters, it will be very blunt. So that'technique' is best not to be used. , As long as you express this character with your heart." Gong Li remembered the experience of filming "Lanxin Theater": "Director Lou Ye said Gong Li, you want to practice gun dismantling, I said yes, no matter whether it is important or not, I will dismantle it first. "

The gun was rusty, it couldn't be installed after it was disassembled, and the spring was no longer useful. Gong Li broke through after training, but she kept practicing.

"However, in the film, the shot of dismantling the gun was deleted. But I understand very well, because the skill of dismantling the gun must be available, and it must grow on the character." Gong Li believes that when the "skill" naturally becomes the body As part of the language, there is no such thing as "acting".
