Groups such as the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum have announced that five new cockroach fossils have been found in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, where many dinosaur fossils have been found, three of which have been identified as new.

This was announced at a press conference by researchers Koichi Yukawa of the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum on the 27th.

According to it, all five types of fossils were found in the feathers of the Early Cretaceous strata 120 million years ago in Chatan Town, Katsuyama City.

Of these, the 6.3 mm long fossil with a complex pattern was identified as a new species and was named after Fukui as "Petroptericus fukuiensis".

In addition, the two fossils of the genus Praebratteella were also found to be new species due to the lack of feather patterns.

Early Cretaceous cockroach fossils are found in a limited number of places worldwide, and research groups such as the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum say that they are important discoveries in studying the evolution of cockroaches.

Koichi Yukawa, a researcher at the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, said, "We named Fukui Ensis because it is a cockroach fossil that is very well preserved and represents Fukui. I want to expect it. "
