Short victory of the SPD in Germany, nothing is decided for the chancellery

Who will succeed Angela Merkel at the head of Germany?

The answer may in fact be delayed until Christmas.

According to the first provisional official results released Monday morning on the website of the electoral commission, the center-left of the SPD and their leader Olaf Scholz won 25.7% of the vote on Sunday, slightly ahead of the conservative union CDU-CSU Armin Laschet, who has a historically low score of 24.1%.

It is therefore a stinging setback for Angela Merkel's camp at the time when she must retire from politics.

Above all, with these very tight results, the two camps are now entering a difficult phase of negotiations with the other parties to hope to delight the Chancellery.

Ségolène Royal beaten, a new elected ecologist elected to the Senate

Ségolène Royal will not go to the Senate this time.

The former socialist minister failed Sunday in the election of senators representing the French abroad, marked by the entry into the upper house of a new elected environmentalist, Mélanie Vogel.

It was a question of filling, by a proportional list system, 6 of the 12 seats of the senators representing the French living outside France.

Ségolène Royal, to whom the PS had refused the nomination, expressed his "disappointment".

However, she does not regret having taken part in "an important campaign" which allowed her to "take the measure of the degradation of the image of France internationally".

Macron announces a center of excellence for French gastronomy

What better place than Lyon to speak and defend French culinary art?

Speaking before the “dinner of the Chefs”, organized in the salons of the prefecture of the Rhône, Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday evening the creation of a “center of excellence” for French gastronomy, which should be based in the Lyon region.

The aim is in particular to defend and promote the catering trade in international competitions.

Spinning the sporting metaphor, the president explained that this center will aim in particular to "train for major international culinary competitions".
