Released from his contract by Stade Rennais, Mbaye Niang officially signed up with the Girondins de Bordeaux on Friday September 24 as a joker.

The Senegalese international striker arrives in Aquitaine to help a club in the hard in recent seasons.

He too will be looking for a new lease of life after a complicated year.

14th in the French championship at the end of the 2018-2019 season, 12th in 2019-2020 (season truncated by the

Covid-19

pandemic

), still 12th last season, FC Girondins de Bordeaux has been trampling for a few years and barely to find the way of the nets. In 2020-2021, the Bordelais scored just 42 goals, with South Korean lone Hwang Ui-jo posting a double-digit personal total (12 goals).

With Mbaye Niang

, new recruit of the club with the scapular, the offensive animation will perhaps regain its brilliance.

The 26-year-old Senegalese arrives as a joker, which allowed his recruitment outside of the transfer window. Niang has signed up for two seasons, until 2023, with an option for a third year. “

Mbaye is a talented player who knows L1 well. He is a striker with a different profile who can bring a lot to our team while giving more solutions to our coach. Since our first exchanges with him, we feel a player very motivated to give new impetus to his career. We are happy to be able to count on Mbaye

”, declared Admar Lopes, the sporting director, at the site of the Girondins.

Bordeaux, taken over at the beginning of the summer by the Spanish-Luxembourg businessman Gérard Lopez (ex-Lille), is looking for its former glory.

Mbaye Niang is also looking for his past success.

Recruited by Stade Rennais in 2018, the Lion of Teranga signed two very good first seasons: 14 goals in 2018-2019 + a victory in the Coupe de France, 15 goals in 2019-2020 (exercise shortened by the Covid-19) .

But his relationship with the staff and management of Rennes deteriorated in the summer of 2020, with the culmination of his

abortive departure from Olympique de Marseille

.

The 9th club of his career

After playing little in Brittany in the first half of the 2020-2021 season (17 appearances, one goal), the Senegalese was sent on loan to Saudi Arabia, to Al-Ahli, where the transplant did not take: in three and a half months, Niang has only appeared five times, with 120 minutes of play and no goals.

More desired in Rennes, the striker was therefore released from his contract and found common ground with Bordeaux.

He had to agree to a sharp drop in his monthly salary - estimated at 250,000 euros in Rennes - to join the Girondins.

“

Finally from Bordeaux.

Very happy to join this historic and ambitious club.

Ready to give everything for my new colors.

Go Bordeaux,

”proclaimed the neo-Bordelais on his Instagram account.

It is already the 9th club of Mbaye Niang.

Trained in Caen and turned pro with the Norman club, he then wore the jersey of AC Milan, Genoa and Torino in Italy, as well as Montpellier and Rennes in France, not to mention a short stint in England at Watford , and therefore those few months in Saudi Arabia in Al-Ahli.

The striker will wear the n ° 23 in Gironde.
