The ethereal music came from 1400 years ago, bringing people to touch the dusty history, to visit a monk who was respected by the world as "Mahayana".

On the evening of September 23, the large-scale national instrumental drama "Xuan Zang Westward" was staged at the Dunhuang Grand Theatre. The team is the main body of the performance, telling the historical story of Xuanzang, the envoy of Chinese and Western cultural exchanges, on the westbound journey. It is also a cultural performance project of the 5th Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo and the 10th Dunhuang Silk Road International Tourism Festival one.

The play is a comprehensive stage art integrating literature, music, performance, stage art and other elements. The innovative form uses the dual expression of "music" and "language", which greatly expands the performance space of musical instrument performance.

There are 73 different types of musical instruments in the whole play, including four major categories: commonly used musical instruments of today's ethnic orchestras, Dunhuang restored musical instruments, Xinjiang traditional musical instruments, and Indian traditional musical instruments, showing the styles of Han, Uygur, Kazakh, Tajik, and Indian. The characteristic music culture demonstrates the diversified cultural characteristics of various ethnic music along the Silk Road in the edification, precipitation, and integration of history, diversified forms, and rich content.

It is understood that after the performance, the Central National Orchestra will also donate the entire set of Taoist operas, stage art, costumes, etc., to Gansu Province, which will be able to perform independently in the future.
