Jordan: 5 victims in 4 suicides in less than 24 hours

The city of Irbid, north of the Jordanian capital, Amman, witnessed 4 suicides in less than 24 hours, resulting in 5 victims.

According to "Sky News Arabia", the first operation was for a person who set himself on fire at dawn in one of the main streets in the city, and hours later, a university student studying medicine was hanged in his family's home west of Irbid.

The security services did not finish investigating the incident until a report was received that a young Syrian national had hanged himself at his workplace in the north of the city.

Later, a pregnant woman drank a toxic substance in the middle of the road in front of the Sharia courts, following family disputes, to be taken to the hospital, and her death and the death of her fetus were announced, to record 5 victims in 4 suicides in Irbid.

Suicides in Jordan recorded an increase in 2020, reaching a suicide every two days, the highest rate in 10 years.

Suicide cases in Jordan reached 169 cases last year, an increase of 45.7 percent, compared to 2019, according to the data of the criminal statistical report for the year 2020 issued by the Criminal Information Department.
